BACKGROUND: Hoshingo Mdogo area? no ... steppes of the Ebro Valley |
You are visiting Javier Blasco Zumeta’s site. I am old enough to have had the time to do a few things, and I would like to share two with you.
IDENTIFICATION ATLAS OF ARAGÓN'S BIRDS
That
an image is worth a thousand words is an old and well-known maxim which is true
or not depending on the actual means and ends. One example is this page, where
the photographs set out to be worth more than the sometimes tedious descriptions
of the characters that reveal the sex and age of birds.
Being a bird ringer, I can catch
birds and photograph them before releasing them, and it is bird ringers that
this site is intended for in the first place. However, I have avoided technical
terms as far as possible, so that the information can reach a wider public, and
for such specific terms as have proved unavoidable there is the glossary.
It is a new born project and, as you can see, still under construction: I
shall gradually add further species and complete the unfinished sections as I
get the necessary photographs. You can know about recent changes clicking
here.
In any case, I shall welcome any comments,
correction of mistakes and suggestions that might improve the site.
Such a large scale project as this cannot be done singlehanded. As a
matter of fact, I am lucky enough to have a lot of friends who are helping me
and to whom I am very grateful. Much as I
woul like to, I do not know everything, so I am also using some bibliography.
The amount of information carried by this site is so large that my server
broke down some time ago. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to OBRA
SOCIAL Y CULTURAL DE IBERCAJA for their generous assistance and the computing
experts and equipment that they have placed at my disposal.
STUDY OF ARAGON’S ARID AREAS
For more than ten years I spent the whole of my free time studying the
juniper forest of the Retuerta de Pina area (in Pina de Ebro’s municipality)
and, by extension, learning about the steppes of the Ebro depression. If you are
going to visit the site that includes some of the results of that study, you
should know that it is there thanks to Juanjo de Haro’s good work and that it
has not been updated for some time.
The joy I get from learning is enough of a reward for me, and therefore I
do not mind if any part of this site is reproduced, stored in an electronic
format or transmitted in any way or by any means, be it electronic or mechanical,
be it by photocopying or by any other method, either invented or yet to be
invented. What is more: in order for this great effort to be as useful as
possible to as many people as possible, I do not merely accept, but also
recommend, that such actions be taken, and I just do not care if the author is
acknowledged or not.
If you should wish to write to me, you know ... Javier Blasco Zumeta; C/ Hispanidad, 8; 50750-Pina de Ebro (Zaragoza)
